"Physical Listening"

J.B. - Biologist (Urbana, IL)

     Gastrointestinal Pain:

"I called Ann Chan this winter because I was having severe gastrointestinal issues and pain.  I had seen several doctors who had prescribed me a variety of medications to help my issue, and only made it worse.  I felt the doctors had stopped listening to what I had to say, and called Ann Chan when I had two doctors ignore the location of my pain and the fact that it was causing me to become depressed.  Upon my first visit, I was struck by Ann Chan's active listening to my history.  She performed subtle manipulations, in a very professional manner, which gave me an immediate lessening of my symptoms.  In addition, she urged me to listen to my body, and made me realize that I have been neglecting myself for some time.  This shift in self awareness has been helping me improve my symptoms over the long term.  I have appreciated how Ann Chan has regarded my body and mind as a whole, instead of one part.  She has been forthcoming with explanations, and given me options as to how I want to receive treatment.  I would be happy to recommend her to any of my friends."

Back pain, Intestine problems and TMJ

" I experienced in my sessions with Ann, her ability and capacity to assist the healing process at ever-deeper levels.  Ortho-bionomy is generally advertised as a means of relieving muscle pain and reducing stress.  In my work with Ann we were able to not only address issues at that level, but to work at levels that allowed release of the patterns holding the stress and fostering the pain.  With Ann’s assistance, I was able to release the stress and associated emotions causing me considerable intestinal irritation, which ultimately led to normal bowel function after experiencing three years of irritated bowels.  Ann also helped me release deeply held tension associated with TMJ as well as tension and irritation associated with birth defects in my lower spine I recommend Ann to anyone wishing to achieve healing release at a deep level.  I have found that the debilitating effects of trauma are less likely to return when released at the level Ann helped me experience".

     Asthma:

"This testimonial is given on behalf of the wonderful treatments that have helped my son, D. recover from asthma. He was 10 years old at the time. Treatments have also helped him with anxieties he has experienced since young age. In Fall 2005, we moved to a new home. Shortly afterwards, D. began coughing and having trouble catching his breath at school and at home. We thought perhaps he was having an allergic reaction to new carpet and paint in the new house. His doctor diagnosed him with asthma and started him on Albuterol inhaler and Prednisone. Although the medicine helped somewhat, D. was still missing Physical Education activities at school because he couldn’t catch his breath after running short periods of time.  In the winter, D. began experiencing tingling and numbness as a side-effect of the medication. After a scary afternoon in the Emergency Room, I decided this is not the kind of “treatment” my son deserved. After one session with Ann, my son has not had a cough nor needed an inhaler. That was in March 2006, I don’t know how or why it worked so quickly, but I am so grateful that it did. My son told me that he did not feel any difference and did not know how it could possibly help. But the results prove that it did help and possibly cured him.We still see Ann on a regular basis for some other therapy issues regarding his ADD, anxiety and sensitivity integration disorder. D. is now 11 years old, much less anxiety-ridden at home and school, and is getting good grades in the Middle School. We contribute much of this success to Ann’s help."

     TMJ

My journey to Ortho-Bionomy® was one that came as a last resort. I had been dealing with jaw pain related to TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint)  for six years prior to discovering Ortho-Bionomy®. I had seen my dentist and was given a NTI (Nociceptive Trigeminal Inhibitor) device to wear at night. This did help, but when my dog ate more than one of them, I was left with finding other options that would relieve my pain. I had neck and shoulder pain that would become somewhat unbearable. I was receiving massage therapy, which also helped, but only for a few days when the pain and tension would start creeping up again after a few nights of jaw clenching. I went to a dentist who specializes in TMJ disorders and recommended I get physical therapy first before he recommended any interventions. I was receiving physical therapy at the time I saw Ann for Ortho-Bionomy®, but I can say with confidence that Ann's approach to my physical issues far surpassed my expectations and treatment from other providers. Ann was very thorough with her assessment of my physical issues, and used an integrated approach to my whole body, mind and spirit. This was something I knew I was looking for, but didn't know how to put into words until she was able to connect many of my issues and give them words. After each session with Ann, my body felt more balanced, my mind was clearer, and I had hope that my jaw pain would continue to decrease. I saw Ann from April-November 2010 and in that time saw great strides in my physical progress and decrease in tension, stress, and pain. I would recommend Ortho-Bionomy®  to anyone who wants to obtain more balance in their life, who hasn't found any good solution to chronic pain, and wants a more holistic approach to their problem. Thank you Ann, for all your help!"

      Back Pain and Sleeplessness

" I started to have a lot of physical problems at the end of writing my dissertation in addition to two faculty jobs. Long hours of work trying d to meet the deadlines and demands of work didn't help. I went to see Ann for back pain and sleeplessness. She talked softly to me and even asked me to choose a music CD from her collection to play while the session was on. She simply asked me which way to move my body would be more comfortable. At each point, I just replied "to the left." or "to the right".  The session lasted about 40 minutes and it was so cozy and warm.  She started with my head and then my shoulder, my back and at the end my legs. At the end, I felt that my whole being was tuned, my energy flow refreshed, and my acting up muscles calmed down. I left her office feeling relaxed and lifted at the same time.  I went home and slept nine hours straight.  When I woke up,  I was a total different personI had another session with her when I came back to Urbana in the following summer and I had right knee problem.  She worked on my knee for about 40 minutes and my knee pain was gone."
